BUS SERVICE BETWEEN RUTLAND AND MIDDLEBURY EXPANDS

Rutland, Vermont….Marble Valley Regional Transit District (MVRTD) jointly with Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR) will increase public transit bus service between Rutland and Middlebury to include mid-day service twice a week.  The expanded service will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning Tuesday, April 15, 2008.  Buses will leave Rutland at 11:30 am and Middlebury at 11:20 am, and meet in Brandon at 12:00 pm to exchange passengers.  Existing morning and afternoon routes will remain unchanged.

“The public has been asking for mid-day service since the route began and we are happy to be able to offer it now,” said Jim Moulton, Executive Director of ACTR.  Since this service between Rutland and Middlebury began in December 2006 ridership on the route has grown each month.  The Connector is currently averaging 40 passengers per day between the two services.  Ellen Atkinson, Community Outreach Coordinator for the MVRTD, pointed out, “This affordable transportation alternative reduces wear and tear on Route 7, and reduces carbon emissions significantly by getting even more cars off the road.”

Schedules will be available on the buses, both agencies websites www.thebus.com and www.actr-vt.org) and offices (158 Spruce Street, Rutland, and 282 Boardman Street, Middlebury). They are also available at Chamber of Commerces and transfer points.

If you have any questions about schedules or other services, please call ACTR at (802) 388-1946 or MVRTD (802) 773-3244, ext. 117.
